Well-Connected, Integrated Transportation Network
Rail Transit: As of 2024, Beijing's rail transit system has an operational length of 836 km, with 27 lines and 490 stations in service. An additional 45.3 km of new lines are set to open this year, bringing the total length to over 880 km — positioning Beijing to become the first city in China to join the “1,000-km club.”
Railway Stations: Beijing is served by seven major railway stations across five districts. By the end of 2024, the main structure of the new Sub-Center Station (in Tongzhou district) was completed, marking the beginning of a new phase with eight major passenger hubs and two international airports for Beijing.
Railway Trunk Network: As the largest railway hub in China, Beijing is the starting point for several major trunk lines, including the Beijing–Guangzhou, Beijing–Shanghai, Beijing–Kowloon, Beijing–Baotou, Beijing–Tongliao, Beijing–Harbin, and Beijing–Yuanping lines. These routes radiate from the capital, connecting to destinations across the country.
International Air Routes: Beijing Capital International Airport offers international flights to 217 destinations in 54 countries across 5 continents, including more than 48 intercontinental routes. Meanwhile, Beijing Daxing International Airport operates over 40 international and regional routes, connecting to nearly 30 countries worldwide.
Airlines: As of June 2025, 66 domestic and international airlines operate out of Daxing Airport, running more than 220 routes to over 200 destinations worldwide. This network covers nearly 60% of all commercial airports in China (covering almost every airport with an annual passenger throughput exceeding 5 million).
