Beijing’s first old city preservation and renewal base is opened at No.42 Yard, Zhaodengyu Road, Xinjiekou Sub-district, Xicheng District. It will showcase historical scenes in the Xinjiekou area in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as the achievements of the renewal and renovation of public spaces in Xinjiekou’s communities. In addition, the base will invite experts and scholars to talk about the historical changes of old Beijing city.
Located in the northwest corner of old Beijing’s inner city, and the north of the central part of Xicheng District, Xinjiekou Sub-district has distinctive functions. It maintains the original style and features of the old capital with many cultural relics and historic sites, lots of local residents, and a number of siheyuans and old residential buildings.
In the future, Xinjiekou Sub-district and Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture will jointly use the base to implement the second phase of the renovation project of Fuchengmennei Street, conduct research on the preservation and renewal of historical and cultural areas and old courtyards, and explore approaches to the renovation of the micro space in the North Yard of Yutaoyuan Erqu residential community.
