Regional Highlights

History & Culture

Miyun is steeped in history, with human activity dating back to the Neolithic era and over 4,100 years of urban development — earning it the reputation: “Gonggong City, older than Beijing City.” It is a living museum of the Great Wall culture, home to 182 km of the Wall stretching across its mountainous landscape. The Simatai section is especially renowned for its steepness, density, uniqueness, craftsmanship, and preservation, while the Wangjing Tower, perched atop a 1,000-m peak, stands as a sentinel of the Ming dynasty's strict border defenses.

In the ancient town of Gubeikou, millennium-old landmarks such as the Yang Linggong Temple and the Three-Eyed Well remain, with folk rhymes like “One step to the Three-Eyed Well, two steps to three temples” echoing stories of life along the frontier. At the heart of it is the Miyun Reservoir — North China's largest water conservancy project — which serves not only as Beijing's primary water source but also a symbol of half a century of ecological stewardship.

Strategic Location

Miyun offers a strategic location and favorable geographic advantages. Located within Beijing's 30-minute economic zone, it sits 40 km from the city center, 35 km from Beijing Capital International Airport, and 160 km from the Port of Tianjin. The district is well served by major transportation routes, including the Beijing–Shenyang High-Speed Railway, Beijing–Chengde Expressway (part of the Daqing–Guangzhou Expressway), Beijing–Shenyang Expressway, and several regional roads such as the Shunmi, Miguan, and Mixing Highways. Suburban Railway Line S5 and the Tongmi Line already connect the district, and the planned Light Rail Line S6 — with a station in Miyun — will further enhance regional connectivity.

Thanks to this strong infrastructure, investment in Miyun offers extended reach to surrounding areas such as Chengde, Xinglong, Luanping, and Fengning in Hebei Province, as well as Inner Mongolia and China's three northeastern provinces. This positions the district as a vital hub supporting Beijing's outward development. As urban infrastructure continues to improve, Miyun is emerging as a gateway for Beijing's northeastward economic expansion and a leading gateway for economic growth in the region.

Development Vision

Miyun remains committed to ecological protection and green development, with science and technology innovation at its core and industrial development as its driving force. The district is actively shaping a comprehensive regional development model, featuring a strategic development belt focused on technological innovation and life and health industries, four distinctive cultural tourism and leisure corridors, and multiple distinctive towns and specialty industrial clusters. Together, these efforts are expediting the development of new quality productive forces, and establishing Miyun as a leading hub for green and high-quality development.

Business Environment

Driven by policy innovation, Miyun is emerging as a benchmark for high-quality development in northeastern Beijing. Its hallmark “Miyun Efficiency” is reflected in initiatives like the “Act Immediately” mechanism and the pioneering “Four-Level Housekeeper” service model — designed to provide full-cycle support from headquarters setup to technological innovation and talent onboarding. The district has topped all Beijing districts for two consecutive years in attracting enterprises from beyond the capital. Its 2024 Ten Action Plans for Optimizing Business Environment outlines strategic measures including targeted high-caliber enterprise attraction and accelerated project execution, cultivating a business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, and internationally competitive.
