Huairou at a Glance
Located in northeastern Beijing, Huairou District covers a total area of 2,122 km2, making it the city's second-largest district by area. With a permanent population of 440,000, the district recorded a regional GDP of RMB 56.45 billion in 2024 — a year-on-year increase of 5%. Huairou also leads Beijing in forest coverage at 77.5%, earning the official title of National Forest City. The district is now expediting the development of a comprehensive national science center and advancing its “One City, Two Capitals” strategy (Huairou Science City, Yanqi Lake International Conference Center, and China Film City) under a new “1+3” integrated development model centered around the Science City.

Just 50 km from central Beijing and 32 km from Beijing Capital International Airport, Huairou is well positioned within the city's 30-minute economic zone, enjoying close connectivity to the capital via the Beijing–Chengde Expressway and three rail lines: the Beijing–Shenyang High-Speed Railway, the Huairou–Miyun Line, and the Tongzhou–Miyun Line.
Natural Environment
Huairou is one of Beijing's ecological conservation zones, offering an exceptional living environment and strong tourism appeal. Renowned for its beautiful ecological environment, it is hailed as the “pearl of Beijing's suburbs” and “Beijing's backyard garden” — a preferred destination for Beijing residents seeking leisure and relaxation getaways.
Over 98% of Huairou lies within Beijing's Class I and Class II Drinking Water Source Protection Zones, and it ranks first in the city for surface water quality. The district also leads Beijing in air quality, forest greening (85%), and forest coverage (77%).
Huairou has been honored with more than 30 prestigious national accolades, including the National Model City for Greening, the National Ecological Civilization Demonstration Zone, the “Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets” Practice and Innovation Base, and the National “All-for-One” Tourism Demonstration Zone.

Huairou is prioritizing the development of the scientific instrumentation and sensor industries by attracting leading research institutions and enterprises, cultivating “hidden champion” enterprises, and establishing Beijing's premier hub for these sectors. This is achieved through a strategic focus on key segments of the value chain, including investment, R&D, design, manufacturing, exhibition, and trading, thereby driving sustained industrial excellence.
New Energy and New Materials
