Beijing at a Glance

Spanning an area of approximately 16,400 km2, Beijing Municipality encompasses 16 administrative districts and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA), and is home to around 21.83 million permanent residents. In 2024, Beijing's regional GDP reached RMB 4.98 trillion, a 5.2% increase from the previous year, while per capita GDP rose to RMB 228,000. The city's economic structure is dominated by the tertiary sector, which accounts for 85.3% of GDP, followed by 14.5% from the secondary sector and 0.2% from the primary sector.

Beijing is focused on strengthening its strategic role as the country's “four centers,” advancing cultural, technological, and green development, as well as promoting the coordinated development of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region. Powered by innovation, the city continues to pursue high-quality development, deepen high-level opening-up, and cultivate a business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, efficient, and internationally competitive. These efforts aim to build Beijing into a world-class, livable, and harmonious capital.
