From November 19 to 20, 2020, the 23rd Session of the Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium was successfully held online. Chen Jining, Mayor of Beijing, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Peter Lam Kin-ngok, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches at the venues in Beijing and Hong Kong respectively; Huang Liuquan, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Qiu Hong, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Yang Yirui, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HongKong Special Administrative Region attended the opening ceremony in Beijing and Hong Kong respectively. This ceremony was presided over by Beijing Vice-Mayor Yang Jinbai. More than 300 people attended the ceremony, including Beijing municipal leaders, heads of relevant departments of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, important officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Chairman or President of the Hong Kong sponsors, well-known figures from the business community, and representatives of enterprises from Beijing and Hong Kong. Entitled "Deepening high-level opening-up and promoting high-quality development", the symposium emphasized on the construction of "Two Districts", further opening-up of the service sector, co-construction of the Belt and Road, as well as other key sectors such as finance, scientific and technological innovation, information services, culture, intellectual property protection, hygiene and health, and food and drug safety.
