In accordance with Xicheng District’s 14th Five-Year Plan, Xicheng District will enhance the overall strength of the sports industry and promote the comprehensive, balanced and high-quality development in the industry in the next five years, the reporter learned from Xicheng District Bureau of Sports recently.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Xicheng District plans to host 30 sports events at district level and above every year, and the number of people who regularly participate in physical exercise is supposed to account for 55 percent of the total district population of long-term dwellers. More than 90 percent of the fitness teams will have social sports instructors, and the number of registered referees at the third level and above will reach 2000.

Meanwhile, Xicheng District will continue to increase sports venues and facilities, with an annual increase of 20000 square meters on average. And at least one new fitness venue will be added in each sub-district every year. The whole waterfront walking way will be completed. By 2025, the average sports field per person will cover an area of 0.75 square meters, and the proportion of smart fitness equipment will reach 50 percent.

Moreover, Xicheng District will optimize the development environment for the sports industry, introduce policies and measures to boost sports consumption, build two sports service complexes, and develop one or two national-level sports industry demonstration institution or project.

In the next five years, Xicheng District also plans to develop ice and snow sports, popularize and promote youth ice and snow sports, and strengthen the construction of ice and snow sports facilities. The Yuetan Skating Hall will be built before the 2022 Winter Olympics. By 2025, Xicheng District will have 500 registered athletes engaging in ice and snow sports, and 500 social winter sports instructors. 300000 people will participate in various ice and snow events, including two ice and snow brand activities.

In addition, Xicheng District will promote the Chinese sports culture and carry forward the spirit of sports. And the district will also strengthen the development of traditional sports such as martial arts, Weiqi, and ice cuqiu.
