In 2021, Xicheng District will build 37 tree-lined slow lanes including Jiugulou Street and Luomashi Street through road renovation and pipeline relocation, implement the landscape lighting project, carry out 5 traffic relief projects, complete the large and medium scale maintenance of 23 roads, and finish old sewer line reconstruction on 21 roads, the reporter learned from a press conference of Xicheng District’s "Two Sessions" recently.
In addition, Xicheng District will create a better environment for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. It will carry out the comprehensive improvement of the surrounding environment of the Yuetan Skating Hall, improve the environment of the Qianmen area, Chongwenmen area, Xuanwumen area, and the West Chang’an Street area, and complete the landscape lighting improvement and cultural landscape renovation of residential buildings on both sides of the North Second Ring Road and the West Second Ring Road.
So far, Xicheng District has completed the environmental improvement of 551 back streets and alleys and the construction of 50 demonstration streets and alleys. Xicheng District’s Wenhua Hutong and Rendinghu North Alley were listed among the "Most Beautiful Streets and Alleys in Beijing", and six rivers and lakes including the South City Moat were selected as "Beautiful Rivers and Lakes in Beijing". Moreover, Xicheng District has relocated overhead power lines of street lights under the ground in by-passes and hutongs in 9 areas, and renovated overhead power lines of street lights in 14 areas.
In 2021, Xicheng District will continue to renovate back streets and alleys. Throughout the year, it plans to complete the refinement and renovation of 574 up-to-standard and to-be-improved back streets and alleys, as well as 100 to-be-renovated back streets and alleys.
