Beijing's state-owned enterprises are playing a key role in advancing technological and industrial innovation, with breakthroughs in high-end manufacturing, AI infrastructure and embodied intelligence. On Aug 20, a themed media tour, "Smart, Green and Integrated — Beijing SOE Sci-Tech Innovation Tour," organized by the Beijing Municipal Government New Media Platform, visited several companies to explore how Beijing's state-owned enterprises are fostering new quality productive forces and integrating scientific and industrial innovation.
In recent years, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality has placed innovation at the top of its planning for building the Beijing (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) International Science and Technology Innovation Center. A package of policies, including "15 Innovation Measures" and a three-year action plan, has been rolled out. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), more than 7 billion yuan was invested in high-end industries and emerging technology sectors from the state-owned capital management budget. The R&D investment of Beijing's SOEs totaled more than 300 billion yuan, with average annual growth above 10%, ranking among the top in national provinces.
Since 2021, Beijing's SOEs have won 11 national science and technology awards and 91 Beijing municipal awards. Naura Technology has become the world's sixth-largest semiconductor equipment manufacturer, while Beijing No.1 Machine Tool Plant achieved 100% localization of a CNC ultra-heavy five-axis compound machine tool.
To improve the innovation ecosystem, Beijing's SOEs have also built 17 innovation consortia, carried out over 2,000 industry-academia-research projects, and released more than 500 application scenarios, facilitating the commercialization of first-set equipment and technologies in Beijing.

At a workshop of the Beijing No.1 Machine Tool Plant, the media tour delegation observed heavy-duty machine tools used in aerospace and nuclear power equipment manufacturing. The company has developed a five-axis heavy-duty bridge-type gantry machining center with domestically produced components, while its National Enterprise Technical Center and CNAS-accredited laboratory has carried out more than 90 national major science and technology projects. Recognized as a national-level "little giant," it has built digital workshops and digital twin technologies to accelerate the company's intelligent transformation.

The delegation also visited Beijing Data Group to explore its "Modulus World" which showcases its digital innovations ranging from AIGC content generation and 3D large-model creation to AI digital humans and robot demonstrations, with an industrial matrix covering computing power, data, models and applications. In July, Beijing Data Group launched JingSuan Token, Beijing's first state-owned token factory. Its pooled computing-power system can raise resource utilization to over 80%, while enabling enterprises to access computing resources on demand and pay according to consumption.

At the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, the "Tiangong" humanoid robot demonstrated dynamic control and applications including industrial handling and household services. Initiated in 2023, the center has developed the world's first full-size electric-driven humanoid robot capable of human-like running. In the 2026 Beijing E-Town Humanoid Robot Half Marathon, its robot Tiangong Ultra completed the course autonomously in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The center has also opened platforms and models to universities and research teams for secondary development, building an open innovation ecosystem for embodied intelligence.
Looking ahead, Beijing's SOEs will continue to focus on intelligent, green and integrated development, strengthen technological and industrial innovation, and support the construction of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei International Science and Technology Innovation Center, serving as a ballast for stable growth and striving to build a modern industrial system.
