I. Basic information in Beijing
Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, is China's political, cultural, international exchanges and scientific and technological innovation center. The total urban area of Beijing is about 16410 square kilometers, and the administrative division is 16 districts. By the end of 2019, the city's resident population was 21.536 million, down 6000 from the end of last year. In terms of age composition, the resident population aged 0-14 years is 2.267 million, accounting for 10.5 per cent of the resident population in the city ;15.556 million, or 72.3 per cent, aged 15-59; and 3.713 million, or 17.2 per cent, resident population aged 60 and over. Urban and rural composition The urban population is 18.65 million and the rural population is 2.886 million; the proportion of the urban population to the resident population of the whole city is 86.6 per cent.
II. THE ECONOMIC OPERATIONS OF BEIJING IN 2019
The city's regional GDP of 3.53713 trillion yuan, at comparable prices, an increase of 6.1 percent over the previous year. By industry, the added value of the primary industry was 11.37 billion yuan, down 2.5 percent; the added value of the secondary industry was 571.51 billion yuan, up 4.5 percent; and the added value of the tertiary industry was 295.425 billion yuan, up 6.4 percent.
III. Utilization of foreign capital in Beijing in 2019
Foreign economy: The total import and export value of Beijing in the whole year was 2866.35 billion yuan, an increase of 5.4% over the previous year. Of this total, exports amounted to 516.78 billion yuan, an increase of 6.1 percent; imports amounted to 234.957 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3 percent.
The total amount of foreign capital absorbed in contracts was $25.97 billion, down 38.0 per cent from the previous year. The actual utilization of foreign capital amounted to $14.21 billion, a decrease of 17.9 per cent, of which information transmission, software and information technology services accounted for 37.6 per cent, scientific research and technology services for 25.9 per cent and financial services for 11.4 per cent.
