Beijing-Wellington Business Fair and Promotion Event on Policies of the "Two Zones" Convened

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relations between Beijing and Wellington, Beijing-Wellington Business Fair and Promotion Event on Policies of the "Two Zones" was held online and offline under the theme of "New Platforms of the 'Two Zones', New Opportunities Between Sister Cities", with a view to better promoting enterprises' matchmaking, integration and win-win development between the two cities. The event was convened at 10:30 (Beijing time) or 15:30 (Wellington time), November 22, by the leadership office of the "Two Zones (national integrated demonstration zone for greater openness in the services sector and China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone)", Beijing Investment Promotion Service Center, the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the municipal government of Wellington. The online platform witnessed discussions on the new opportunities and future of economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. Participants included representatives from Tongzhou area of China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency, Wellington Chamber of Commerce and other government agencies, chambers of commerce and associations of Beijing and Wellington, as well as relevant heads of more than 30 key enterprises of the two cities engaged in cross-border e-commerce, business services, high-end manufacturing, financial services, etc. These enterprises included Fuwah International Group, JD Worldwide, Wellington Airport, etc. Liu Meiying, Full-time Deputy Director of the leadership office of the "Two Zones", and Andy Foster, Mayor of Wellington, attended the event online and delivered speeches. The event was presided over by Li Hui, Deputy Director of the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee.

During the event, the leadership office of the "Two Zones" and Beijing Investment Promotion Service Center introduced the new policies launched and new achievements made during the past year since the construction of the "Two Zones" as well as the open and shared business environment and investment advantages of Beijing. Tongzhou District introduced industrial development in Beijing's "subsidiary center" and results achieved in such aspects as improving the development environment for enterprises and vigorously attracting foreign investment. In the speeches of the relevant heads of Wellington Chamber of Commerce and Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency, they focused on the local diversified economic development and the challenges and future development ideas brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. During exchanges and interaction, enterprises from the two cities talked about culture and tourism, aviation services, e-commerce, etc.

As expected, the sister city relations between Beijing and Wellington have played an active role in promoting the economic and social development and cultural prosperity of both sides. Facing the once-in-a-century changes taking place in the world, the two sister cities will strive to find new opportunities, fully leverage their respective advantages in industries and resources, and work together more closely to make a new blueprint for win-win cooperation.
